Job Description
We are seeking a Graphic Designer with production experience with a passion for details along with a healthy mix of creative and technical know-how.
You will assist teams in the production of graphic material, packaging, display and advertising projects and more. You may collaborate with graphic designers to format artwork, ensure print quality standards are met and will often collect, process and organize files.
You will be working and managing the graphic outputs of in-house prototypes during the ideation and validation phase, ensuring a clean hand-off to the print production team and vendors for production.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to work quickly but also remain extremely detail-oriented.
This position will report to the Head of Creative.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with Head of Creative, designers, engineers, account managers and print production team
Prepare final press-ready files based on supplied specifications for several types of printing
Make various formats of supplied artwork production-ready and resolve any artwork issues that arise during prototypes or production
Develop design catalogs, style guides and print graphic mock-ups to help support project approval and recurring project needs
Continuously re-assess current process to offer improvements regarding refreshes and approval process of graphics
Support our in-house printing prototype capabilities by handling in-house print and cut requests and maintaining the prototype area clean for other team members
Continuously re-assess current in-house printing process to offer improvements regarding prototype art and proofing
Provide quick and accurate turnarounds on graphic and copy changes leading to client final approval
Provide image retouching, clipping paths and additional image manipulation
Package and preflight files for release to printers or media partners
Create PDFs for print and client review
Conduct press checks
Prepare images for print and online or mobile applications
Catalog and reference art for future projects
Follow the company's task management process to ensure tasks are being completed on time
Troubleshoot problems as they arise with both the creative team and the printer
Required Skills & Abilities
OnQ requires full COVID vaccination as a condition of employment
Bachelor’s degree in the education technology, design, communications, marketing, journalism or similar field preferred
Knowledge of retail design industry, an interest and/or experience in retail design or exhibition/trade show graphics - preferred
College degree or equivalent work experience
3-5 years of experience in a hands-on graphic designer or production artist position with a demonstrated ability to create accurate, production-ready assets
Expert level in Adobe CC; InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
Excellent collaboration skills - Able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands
Exceptional organizational skills; ability to set priorities and adapt as these priorities shift, handle multiple assignments and deadlines
Detail-oriented and willingness to learn and adapt with technology
Helpful, personable, outgoing and self-motivated, with the willingness to gracefully receive feedback, proactively manage workload and contribute innovative ideas to the team
Strong typography, color and layout abilities.
Ability to self-manage multiple projects with parallel timelines.
Creative problem-solving skills; critical thinker, consistently able to avoid inconsistency
Proven ability to deliver consistently high quality work under tight deadlines
Display excellent judgment, while operating in a flexible and professional manner
Ability to deliver compelling and technically accurate designs – yes, proofing your own work is a must!
Strong typography, color and layout ability
Print production skills to carry out conceptual designs through to print-ready files
Bonus: Experience designing in new and emerging digital media
Bonus: Knowledge of XD for UX/UI design and high-fidelity prototypes
Bonus: Experience designing for retail or digital displays in a fast-paced design environment.
Video creation, apps and user interfaces skills are a plus
